"With 99 percent of Alaska’s precincts reporting, Mr. Stevens was ahead of Mark Begich, the mayor of Anchorage, 48 to 47 percent, with the remaining votes going to fringe candidates. Should Mr. Stevens indeed prevail, and should he reject the calls for his resignation, the Senate would likely vote on whether to expel one of its members for the first time in many decades."
